Ingredients
  

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 4 medium potatoes thinly sliced
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup milk
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp dried oregano

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a baking dish.
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet and sauté chopped onion until soft.
  3. Add garlic and ground beef then cook until browned.
  4. Season beef with paprika, salt, pepper, and oregano and stir well.
  5. In a small saucepan melt butter then add milk and heavy cream and warm gently.
  6. Layer sliced potatoes on the bottom of the baking dish.
  7. Add a layer of cooked beef over the potatoes.
  8. Sprinkle a portion of cheddar and mozzarella cheese.
  9. Drizzle some of the cream mixture over the layer.
  10. Repeat layers until ingredients are used finishing with cheese on top.
  11. Cover dish with foil and bake for 35 minutes.
  12. Remove foil and bake another 15 minutes until cheese is golden and bubbly.
  13. Let the bake rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Slice potatoes thinly so they cook evenly.
Add extra cheese on top for a richer flavor.
You can substitute ground turkey for beef.
Add vegetables like bell peppers or mushrooms for extra nutrition.
Leftovers store well in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
