Method
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a baking dish.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet and sauté chopped onion until soft.
- Add garlic and ground beef then cook until browned.
- Season beef with paprika, salt, pepper, and oregano and stir well.
- In a small saucepan melt butter then add milk and heavy cream and warm gently.
- Layer sliced potatoes on the bottom of the baking dish.
- Add a layer of cooked beef over the potatoes.
- Sprinkle a portion of cheddar and mozzarella cheese.
- Drizzle some of the cream mixture over the layer.
- Repeat layers until ingredients are used finishing with cheese on top.
- Cover dish with foil and bake for 35 minutes.
- Remove foil and bake another 15 minutes until cheese is golden and bubbly.
- Let the bake rest for 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
Slice potatoes thinly so they cook evenly.
Add extra cheese on top for a richer flavor.
You can substitute ground turkey for beef.
Add vegetables like bell peppers or mushrooms for extra nutrition.
Leftovers store well in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
