Ingredients
  

  • 5 cups apples peeled and sliced
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar for topping
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup cold butter cubed
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce
  • Optional: vanilla ice cream for serving

Method
 

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl mix sliced apples, brown sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, cornstarch, and vanilla extract.
  3. Spread the apple mixture evenly into a greased 9×9 inch baking dish.
  4. In another bowl combine flour, oats, brown sugar, and cinnamon.
  5. Add cold butter cubes and mix with your fingers until the mixture becomes crumbly.
  6. Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the apples.
  7. Bake for 35–40 minutes until the topping is golden brown and apples are tender.
  8. Remove from oven and drizzle caramel sauce over the warm crumble.
  9. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream if desired.

Notes

Use tart apples like Granny Smith for the best flavor balance.
Cold butter helps create a perfect crumbly topping texture.
Let the crumble cool for about 10 minutes before serving.
Add chopped pecans or walnuts for extra crunch.
Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
