SLOW COOKED BEEF STEW RECIPE

Ingredients
  

  • 1 kg beef chuck cut into chunks
  • 3 carrots chopped
  • 3 potatoes cubed
  • 1 onion diced
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp thyme
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • Optional: mushrooms
  • Optional: peas

Method
 

  1. Heat oil and brown beef chunks in a pan
  2. Add carrots, potatoes, onion, and garlic to slow cooker
  3. Place browned beef on top of vegetables
  4. Pour in beef broth, tomato paste, and Worcestershire sauce
  5. Add salt, pepper, and thyme
  6. Cover and cook on low for 7–8 hours or high for 4–5 hours
  7. Mix flour with water and stir in to thicken stew
  8. Cook additional 20–30 minutes until thickened
  9. Taste and adjust seasoning before serving

Notes

Browning beef adds extra flavor—don’t skip it
Avoid adding too much liquid to keep stew thick
Cut vegetables evenly for consistent cooking
Add peas or mushrooms near the end for best texture
Store leftovers in fridge up to 4 days or freeze for later
