Method
- In a bowl, mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast and let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy
- Add butter, egg, salt, and flour and mix to form a soft dough
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes until smooth
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1–1.5 hours until doubled
- Punch down the dough and divide into equal portions
- Shape each portion into balls and place in a baking tray
- Cover and let them rise again for 30–40 minutes
- Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 15–20 minutes until golden brown
- Brush with butter after baking for a soft, glossy finish
Notes
Use warm milk, not hot, to avoid killing the yeast
Do not over-flour the dough to keep rolls soft
Let the dough rise fully for the best fluffy texture
